Jens Munk Trophy and Champions Cup 2018

Players were warned of very high temperatures and a strategic decision was taken to allow buggies.  In the event this turned out to be a very good idea as the skies over Fanling were crystal blue and temperatures around 35 degrees.  Given the use of buggies, it was therefore a pleasure to be out on the Eden course which personally is my favourite at Fanling.

In my flight Sandy “I’m going through a swing change” MacIntosh was shaking off his disastrous last outing at DB and put together a solid back nine after a shaky start.  Matt Kuchar bombed his drives miles past mine all day long but then pulled out approach shots which  more than justified his 10 handicap.  My round was marked by poor putts from close range which fortunately decided to all fall in, as opposed to those days where they all decide to lip out.  The only three putts I hit which reached the hole on the relatively slow green all decided to fall in to which led to a flattering stableford score of 40 which was enough to walk off with not one, but two trophies.  I was not even aware I was eligible for the Champions Cup as I have not won an event for well over a year but apparently 2nd place is enough to qualify.  I will have to blow the dust off my trophy cabinet before parking these two beauties there!  Clearly 5 days of golf in temperatures up to 37 degrees in Chiang Mai paid off.

In the match play event the following results were recorded:-

JP defeated Lorenz 5&3

Craig defeated Barry 3&2

Terry defeated Peter Aherne 6&4 (it seems Terry is unstoppable in matchplay having recently handed me an 8&6 drubbing at Xili!)

Randy received a walkover from Duncan simply because Duncan will not be around if he progressed any further as he will be moving to the UK later in summer.  Personally I see that as no reason not to knock out Randy first!

Noel defeated Nick Gikas 3&2.
