The Heritage Cup 2020

It was certainly an interesting match today. The weather was fine, and the course was in good condition and rated as one of the easier courses around. Nevertheless, the average stableford score was below 26. The heat certainly played into it.

We had 5 guests completing the field with one of them a former Wimbledon Doubles Champion, Jonathan Marray, who also won the best guest. Well done and you are forgiven for drowning our yellow ball.

Two long time members who did not have a chance to play for quite a while joined us, Michael Jackson and Scott Engle, welcome back.

Two matches were played and Matt Burke beat Raaj Shah and Dale Willets beat Will Glover, both in tight finishes but with scores of all 4 players at below 25. 

The keenest golfer award was hotly contested and turned out to be quite a thriller, with Michael Jackson clinching it in the end. Quote: “I didn’t think I would win anything at this event, so I am happy”. 

The keenest team with the yellow ball was team 9, with John, Jukka, Vance and Michael who managed to lose the ball on the second hole with zero stableford points. Impressive.

At the other end, Richard, John, Matt and Raaj managed not only to bring the ball back but scored 33 points, higher than any of the players in that group. This yellow ball would have also won runner up in the overall stableford competition.

We do need to start collecting money for Nick, who again had to use his 3 wood for putting. Although, given that he came third overall, maybe it is us who should consider…

Lowest gross was a good 78 achieved by Stephen and runner up on countback was Michael Kucher with 33 points. Our winner, as far as I know with his first win, is Jukka Hakli with an impressive 36 points and two birdies, one of which won him the only 2’s in the field. With another 2 Nearest to Pins his winnings were well worth the effort. Congratulations, Jukka.
